Professor Jian Kang has been Professor of Acoustics at the University of Sheffield School of Architecture since 2003. He obtained his first degree and MSc from Tsinghua University in Beijing, and his PhD from the University of Cambridge. Before coming to Sheffield, he worked as a Senior Research Associate at the Martin Centre, University of Cambridge, an A. v. Humboldt Fellow at the Fraunhofer Institute of Building Physics in Germany, and a lecturer at Tsinghua University.
Professor Kangs research field is architectural/environmental acoustics and noise control. His specialist areas include computer simulation of room acoustics and environmental acoustics, auralisation, urban soundscape and acoustic comfort, social and psychological aspects of sounds, acoustic environments for hearing impaired individuals, speech intelligibility, acoustic physical scale modelling, acoustics of long spaces (suc...
