Melon may be the expert in cooking (veggies particularly), but as I know, parboil is to "partially" cook in preparation for the subsequent steps.
I think I may have to learn how to parboil a melon soon!

To blanch is even shorter than parboil. Also, the purposes of blanching is normally to remove odors or skins.
