China believes it is the center of the universe. Look at its flag: one big star surrounded by satellite stars. Arrogant! ~ Nguyen Khanh[1]The flag of China[2], also known as the Five-star Red Flag, is a red field charged[3] in the canton[4] (upper corner nearest the flagpole) with five golden stars[5]. The design features one large star, with four smaller stars in a semicircle set off towards the fly (the side farthest from the flag pole). The red represents the communist revolution; the five stars and their relationship represent the unity of the Chinese people under the leadership of the Communist Party of China[6] (CPC). The first flag was hoisted by the Peoples Liberation Army[7] (PLA) on a pole overlooking Beijings Tiananmen Square[8] on 1 October 1949, at a ceremony announcing the founding of the Peoples Republic.
