Island House is a guesthouse near Formosa Boulevard MRT Station. Named in reference to the island nation of Taiwan, this guest house can be found in a renovated townhouse that was originally built around 50 years ago. Each of the seven uniquely designed guest rooms reflects Kaohsiung’s local flavor. The first floor lounge area and the basement gallery space are open to all. In the afternoon you can enjoy Taiwanese tea and sweets, and in the evening you can cut loose with fresh fruit cocktails. The guesthouse collaborates with local gallery Arcade Art Gallery, occasionally holding exhibitions of work by internationally renowned artisans. Even if you’re not staying at the guest house, this open and inviting lounge and gallery are definitely worth a visit.
