The dragon pit is one of the games most unique jungle camps[1] on Summoners Rift[2] as its occupant varies throughout a match of League of Legends[3], with even the initial spawn being determined at random. These dragons[4] serve as a neutral objective that rivals Baron Nashor[5].

Prior to V6.9[7], The Dragon[8] was the sole occupant of the dragon pit and there was generally no need to distinguish the camp from the monster in terms of gameplay. With the introduction of the elemental drakes, it became necessary to document the objective separately from the individual dragon units. The dragon system received a substantial overhaul in preseason ten[9], modifying the spawn mechanics, rewards and even the layout of the pit.
